Two youths hurt in militants firing

Imphal, February 25, 2010: Two youths injured when unknown armed gunmen suspected to be militants fired at a brick-field and a house in Imphal east district last night, police said Thursday.

Suspected militants fired several rounds of guns at a brick field located at Swambung village under Lamlai police station of Imphal east district last night at about 7 pm, police said today.

In the firing, reportedly related with extortion demand to the proprietor, a labourer housed at Work-shed of the brick field identified as Hidam Bisho Singh (23) son of Thoibi Singh of Mayang Imphal sustained bullet injury at the leg.

He has been admitted at RIMS Hospital, Imphal.

Earlier, miscreants also fired at the house of an angawadi worker injuring to a nephew of the anganwadi worker identified as Sh Bipin Sharma (30) of Yourbung village.

He was hit by a bullet at his chest and struggling for life at Shija Hospital, Imphal.

He sustained bullet injury when gunmen fired indiscriminately at the house of one Sh Mani of Yourbung under Lamlai police station where he was staying with his wife.

Police said that gunmen fired at the house of Mani, a leader of a body of anganwadi workers last night about 6.30 pm allegedly in connection with monetary demand.

Recently there were instants of attacking her house by underground activists in connection with extortion demand from the anganwadi workers of Imphal east district.
