Imphal, November 15 2008: A MOBILE phone tower of the Aircel network at Wangkhei Mayum Lierak in Imphal West was attacked with an explosive on Saturday evening at about 6:45 reportedly by members of a militant outfit.

However, no damage was done to the tower or the machine.

The bomb, suspected to be a Chinese made hand grenade, reportedly exploded at the foot of the tower causing no damage to the tower or the machine.

No human casualty was reported too.

The tower is built on the land of Kuraijam Dhiren, an ex-director of agriculture department and the attack was suspected to be in connection with monetary demands.

Investigations were underway at the time of filing of this report even as the police had registered a case.

Reportedly, a Reliance mobile tower was also set on fire by suspected militants a month or two back though no heavy damage was reported too.
