Imphal, February 08 2010: Even as the State Police Department has been investigating the brutal murder of Angom Chanbi and her teenaged daughter Menaka, Kangchup and Phayeng villagers convened separate public meetings in connection with the incident.

In a meeting held at Kangchup Chingkhong today, the gathering decided to pledge support to any agitation initiated by JAC Phayeng.

The meeting also resolved to plead the UG outfits to clarify whether they were involved in the incident.

Seeking a report on the progress of police investigation, Kangchup villagers urged upon the Police Department not to give unnecessary harassment to innocent people.

The meeting, while demanding befitting punishment to the perpetrators, urged upon the Government not to delay in delivering justice.

The meeting demanded the Government to support Chanbi's innocent children till they become self sustained.

The public gathering also pressed the Government to take up necessary measures/action to curb crime against women.

The Kangchup villagers also called on the meira paibis to handover any person found involved in the heinous crime.

Phayeng Ching Khunou Chaokhat Thourang Nupi Lup and Phayeng Khunou Cultural and Development Club also held a joint meeting in connection with the incident yesterday.

As Chanbi's eldest son was having connection with a UG group, the meeting pleaded the particular group and UG other groups to make a clarification on the murder.

The meeting also resolved to appealed the Police Department not to harass innocent people in the name of investigation.

The villagers also decided to urge upon the Government to punish the culprit according to law of the land.

It was also resolved to take up necessary action if people from their locality are found involved in the heinous crime.
