Imphal, July 06 2009: The Commandant of 2nd India Reserve Battalion (IRB), HT Gangte, IPS has categorically clarified that there is no Assistant Commandant in his battallion by the name of Md.Abdul Latif, who is said to be involved in the murder case of Md Tayeb Ali and against whom the CJM, Imphal has issued a non-bailable warrant of arrest, as published in the state dailies on July 5 and 6 editions.

Referring to the news reports, Commandant of 2nd IRB, HT Gangte clarified that there is no Assistant Commandant of 2nd IRB by the name of Abdul Latif, who is said to be involved in the abduction and murder case of Md.Tayeb Ali according to a charge sheet filed by the CBI, ACB, Shillong.

Meanwhile, an independent enquiry conducted by this newspaper has established that Abdul Latif, the then OC of Kangpokpi police station � listed as the sixth accused in the charge sheet submitted by the CBI, ACB, Shillong in connection with the abduction and subsequent murder of Md.Tayeb Ali, and whose non-bailable warrant of arrest was issued by the CJM, Imphal � is now being posted as the Assistant Commandant of 2nd Battalion Manipur Rifles at Deulahlane here.
