One 'K' cadre killed, four civilians hurt

Imphal, May 02 2009: ALLEGING THAT the security forces personnel wounded four civilians in the aftermath of their encounter with the NSCN (K) at Nurathel village of Tamei constituency in Tamenglong district on Friday the Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM) Saturday strongly condemned the act of the security force and appealed them not to repeat such act.

ZSUM chairman K.Humaliabou stated that as per information received from the villagers there was a shoot out between the NSCN (K) and the Army on Friday at the village wherein a cadre of the Naga rebels identified as Philip Zeme from Ashalu village in Assam was killed.

However, the shocking thing was when the Army personnel shot at four civilians, thus injuring all the four in the process, stated Humaliabou as per information received.

The four civil comprised of one Majatkamang of Nurathel village, a Meitei who is a truck driver and two other Kuki civilians informed the chairman of the ZSUM.

While the villagers have strongly condemned the shootout between the two sides in the village and appealed them not to repeat such acts, the ZSUM strongly condemns the act and the motive of the Army, stated Humaliabou.

Informing that the people respect the Army as they are to protect and safeguard the people, it is condemnable that they commit such act, stated the chairman of the ZSUM and appealed the Army not to repeat such act.

In the meanwhile, the troops of Red Shield Division killed one suspected UG in Khundong in Tamenglong District.

Based on inputs regarding the presence of armed UGs carrying out intimidation of locals in area of Khundong village a well planned operation was launched by troops based at Tamei resulting in killing of one cadre and recovery of large quantity of arms and ammunition.
