Imphal, June 28 2009: In two separate incidents police claimed as encounters that occurred tonight, Imphal West district police commandos shot dead one youth and Bishnupur district police commandos killed two youths.

The first incident happened at about 7 pm near the main gate of Central Agriculture University (CAU) at Iroishemba under the jurisdiction of Lamphel Police Station.

A police source said, police commandos patrol the areas of CAU daily after the incident of killing some migrant workers.

As usual, a team of Imphal West district police commandos patrolled the area today also.

They saw three youths moving about near the CAU in a suspicious manner.

The police team ordered the three persons to stop, but they refused.

Then the commandos opened fire at the three youths.

One of them was shot dead and the other two escaped towards the Langol hills, police said.

One 9mm Mauser pistol was recovered from the deceased.

The second incident occurred around 9.30 pm at Kwakta ground under Moirang police station.

On being tipped off that some underground cadres were present in the area, a team of Bishnupur district police commandos rushed there.

The underground cadres first attacked the police team who retaliated.

In the ensuing shoot out, two of the UG cadres were killed.

One 9mm pistol, one carbine and a number of bullets were recovered from the two deceased cadres.

All three deceased persons have not been identified as yet, police said.
