Thomas' dead body taken

Imphal, February 26, 2010: Following the assurance from the chief minister to fulfill the demands of the Joint Action Committee against the killing of policeman Thomas Kamei, the family members have taken the dead body of Thomas Kamei from the mortuary of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) today.

The chief minister also given Rs 1 lakh to the family members of the deceased as 'interim' relief.

Thomas Kamei, a constable in the Manipur police died in a clash among the policemen on February 21 night.

A residence of Langol Laimanai Ramgailong, Thomas Kamei was survived by his wife Kanemgailu and two daughters.

The JAC formed in connection with the killing of Thomas Kamei demanded that sub-inspector of police S.Suresh who is accused as the prime suspect in the killing be booked at the earliest time possible.

The JAC however, said that agitation will continue unless the demands are fulfilled.

Other demands include the provision of a job to one of the relatives of the deceased and to pay ex-gratia.
