Protests stage against gun attacks

Imphal, February 24, 2010: Attacks with bombs and guns at the houses of the individuals go on unabated so all protest against the acts of intimidating people in Manipur.

While protests were staged Wednesday at two separate places in Imphal against gun firing at the houses of two officials, suspected militants deposited a bomb at the house of an official of the bank today, at about 6.30 am.

The bomb reportedly related with the extortion demand to an assistant manager of the Manipur State Rural Bank Limited at Kshetrigao under Porompat police station of Imphal east district.

The bomb found at the house of the Md Shafiq Ali was later disposed at an open place at Yaralpat.

Locals of Sagolband Tera in Imphal West District staged a sit-in protest against attacks on the house of deputy finance officer of Manipur University at Sagolband Tera in Imphal West District under Lamphel police station.

Two suspected militants who came on a motorcycle fired at two rounds of guns at the house of the deputy finance officer Mayanglambam Biren yesterday evening, at about 6.45 pm.

No casualty suffered in the firing but caused panic and fear to the family as well as to the neighbouring, claimed locals taking part in the protest.

No peace can be brought about by intimidating people with guns and bomb, they lamented.

Another protest was also staged at Lamlai Chalou under Lamlai police station in Imphal East District in protest against at the house of assistant agriculture officer, Chongtham of state agriculture department.

According to the villagers taking part in the protest, miscreants performed the attack on the night of February 16 last but villagers of Lamlai Chalou still leading a live of fear as the incident was not the first time in the area.
