Imphal, October 23 2009: Pukhrambam Boby @ Momba, who has been identified as the prime accused in the murder of 18-year old housewife Okram ongbi Tamphasana of Serou, attempted to join the Village Defence Force (VDF) before the incident of rape and murder took place.

Hueiyen Lanpao has been able to find out that Momba applied for appearing in the VDF recruitment in Imphal East district with a Class VIII certificate issued in the name of one Kangabam Premjit.

The certificate is suspected to be a fake one.

He had applied for appearing in the recruitment test in Imphal East district.

As per the serial allotted to the applicants, his serial number is 5283.Actually, he has not passed Class-VIII, according to a source close to the family of Momba.

Momba @ Boby was the alleged culprit of raping a girl some year back at Mahabali forest when he was earning livelihood by pulling rickshaw.

In the case, an underground organization had also punished him by shooting at the right leg.

After his house along with belongings was burnt down by irate mob yesterday, Momba is still at large.

He ran away with his wife and a half year old son before the mob attacked his house on the charge of murdering the 18-year old housewife with possible rape.

Police is also traced out his whereabouts.

The deceased Tamphasana was the sister in-law of his wife.

He had brought Tamphasana to Imphal along with her mother-in law on the pretext of efforting his best to make her (Tamphasana) husband release from the jail.

Tamphasana's husband is in jail after he was arrested on the alleged charge of link with undergrounds.

Locals said that Tamphasana was an innocent young housewife leading a simple life.

She was never been in Imphal before the said faithful day.

Momba taking advantage of the ignorance of the places and on the pretext of collecting photograph from the studio may have taken him in other way with the intention to perform what she wanted to do with her.

The manner which clothing on her body was found misplaced, locals suspected that Tamphasana was raped before being murdered by the culprit.
