Imphal, June 22 2009: In a fresh attack on the life of the migrant labourers in the state, a mobile milkman was shot at by two gunmen injuring him seriously around 4.30 pm today at Sangaiprou Kabui Khun under Lamphel Police Station.

The injured non-local was identified as Shivshankar (18), son of Raj Pukari Yadav, of Terai village of Bengusarai district, Bihar at present residing at a rented house at Sagolband Pukhrambam Leikai.

He was hit by three bullets and sustained injuries at the back of his head, in the right arm and waist.

He is stated to be in critical condition.

Reports said that two youths coming on an Activa Honda shot the non-local milkman who came to supply milk to the residents of the area as usual on a bicycle.

A piece of paper on which was written "Eikhoigi mee haatpa matamda nakhoigisu haatkani" was found at the spot where he was found lying with injuries.

He was immediately evacuated at RIMS hospital by the residents of the area on a van.

From the RIMS he was referred to JN hospital for treatment of the injury at the head.

At late, he has been reportedly referred to Shija Hospital again.

Government has also reportedly announced bearing all the expenditure in the treatment of the milkman.

Police who rushed to the spot on getting information seized the piece of paper along with one empty case of 9 mm.

They also conducted a search operation in the surrounding area to find out the perpetrators.

In the meantime, police have also launched a drive of collecting non-locals residing in rented houses at various places in Imphal.

Around 34 non-locals have been picked up and kept at Dharmasala and Kalibari.

A statement of senior SP, Imphal west, L Kailun tonight has also asked non-locals migrant labourers not to go for work beyond the Imphal Municipality area.

It also appealed to inform the rented houses where non-locals are residing to the police.
