Imphal, November 18 2008: A MAN who threatened the women protestors blocking the NH-39 at Kakwa area with his licensed gun was detained by police today.

The incident occurred when a group of women hailing from Ningomthong Sairom Leirak blocked the Indo Myanmar road to protest the murder of Imphal Free Press junior sub-editor Rishikanta.

A man identified as Laishram Haridas who came in a car with registration number MN-01K-7493 took out his licensed gun and pointed it towards a woman said to be his relative and tried to forcibly pass through the barricade put up by the protesting women.

Singjamei police later took him into their custody.

The protestors then demanded production of the man, but were calmed down after the OC of the Sinjamei PS assured them that a case would be registered against him.
