Imphal, July 14 2009: A survey in the illegal stayed of migrant labours will be conducted across Manipur, said state labour and employment minister, Ph Parijat Tuesday while giving reply to a question raised by ruling member E Kunjeshwor of Congress in the House of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.

The minister said that Manipur state a system of recording entry of skilled and unskilled labour from outside the state and as per official record maintained by the labour and employment department, 141 skilled and unskilled labour entered into the state during the last three years.

Giving year-wise details of the entry, Parijat said 40 each of both skilled and unskilled labours entered into the state during 2007 and 2008 while a total of 61 labour recorded entry in the state during 2009 till July.

They come from West Bengal and Assam for work in Manipur, he said.

In reply to the supplementary question raised by the members of the house, the labour and employment minister further said that the department has inspectors who entrusted the task of checking the entry of illegal labours from outside the state from time to time.

The department is planning to conduct a survey into the migrant labours staying in the state so that unregistered entry could be single out and take up necessary legal action against them.

Earlier, ruling MLA, E Kunjeshwor raising the question in the House today during the question answer hour wanted to know the system of maintaining the labour entering in the state for work and measures taken up by the state government in the wake of series of attacks on the life of the migrants.

He also suggested the government for conducting a survey to single out illegal migrant labours and if necessary deport them as they have been targeted repeatedly by the armed miscreants.

Responding to the question, the minister said that inspectors of labours department which divided into two sections, rural and urban have been assigned to conduct survey into the migrant labours in the state.

Government is planning to launch the survey at the earliest.

In Manipur, as many as 23 non-locals killed and injured to more than five in the series of attack on the life of non-locals since January this year.

In 2008 also as many as 17 non-locals migrants killed.
