Boy hurt in bomb disposing blast

Imphal, January 04 2008: A two and half year old boy sustained splinter injury while disposing a hand grenade by the personnel of the state police bomb squad at a open place at Ghari in Imphal west this morning at around 8 am.

Decrying the hurting of the boy name Meisnam Robinson son of Brojen of Ghari Maning Leikai, a sit-in protest was also staged at the locality from around 11 am till 4 pm.

Around 60 people mostly womenfolk participated in the protest.

Reports said that this morning personnel of the state police bomb squad defused a hand grenade which was deposited at the house of commandant of the state home guard named Tomba of Ghari posting at Bishnupur district headquarter apparently in connection with monetary demand served on him by a militants outfit.

According to Tomba, sometime back a militant outfit served him to give Rs.1 lakh collectively from the home guard battalion.

He refused to disclose the name of the outfit but expressed suspicion of placing of bomb at his home in connection with the demand which his battalion did not paid.

After the bomb was safely defused and disposed off at an open field, the boy who happened to play nearby the field with some other local children was hit by splinter in the head.

The minor boy was immediately evacuated at RIMS hospital.

Hospital source stated his condition out of danger.

Decrying the deposition of the bomb and blaming the injuring of a boy in the disposal action of the police, locals staged a sit-in protest.
