New Delhi, March 29 2009: Locals of Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai today staged a sit-in protest against bomb threat to the house of the Dr Takyenjam ningol Bilashini last night apparently in connection with monetary demand.

Last night at around 8.30 pm, some unknown persons suspected to be undergrounds deposited a hand grenade at the house of the doctor.

Later a team of state police bomb disposal squad defused it on the same night.

Locals as well as family members of the Dr Bilashini believed that the bomb was deposited in connection with a monetary demand of Rs.5 lakhs which was made some days back.

The demand letter was found inside a box hanging at the gate of the doctor.

Protestors taking part in the sit-in protest said that it would be better on the part of the doers to held talk and settle the matter peacefully instead of threatening with bomb.

Threatening with bomb and gun will bring nothing.

Rather, the matter will be worsened if people united and stand against such monetary demand with threat.

The sit-in protest was staged at North Imphal youth Oriental Club premise and organized by the Thangmeiband Ema Langol Leima Nupi Samaj.

President of the body Athokpam ningol Sakhi observed that it would be wrong on the part of the underground outfits trying to extort money earned one's own effort.

"We thought that they (she means underground) are doing for the betterment of the society and its people.

But, if they carry out excessive things, one day people may cross the limit of patience," she lamented and asked the responsible underground group to clarify why they are doing like this.

Slogans like, "We always stand against bomb and gun threats of the undergrounds, and we denied hurling bomb in the populated areas was displayed at the protest site.
