Condemnations galore over killing of Kom leader

Imphal, November 27 2009: Condemnation over the killing of a Reyamkhup Kom of Thayong village by undergrounds yesterday has poured in from all quarters.

Strongly condemning the killing of Reyamkhup by suspected underground group, signatory group of SoO, the United Committee Manipur (UCM) observed that the state and Central governments would be solely held responsible for all the crimes committed along the highways and killings for ransoms.

A statement issued by the assistant IPR secretary of UCM, N Jiban demanded out that the government should compensate the death at the earliest time.

It stated that the government should shun the habit of waiting to respond till an agitation is launched.

Stating that the Suspension of Operation (SoO) is meaningless in the state, the UCM statement also expressed doubtfulness about the hidden agenda of the SoO.

It added that the signatory armed groups should also try to maintain the trust of the public.

Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) has also strongly condemned the killing of Reyamkhup Kom.

A statement issued by its secretary of publicity and propaganda, L Sanajaoba Meetei conveyed that the killing of such personality was very unfortunate for the state.It urged all concerned to prevent the recurrence of such incident while also sharing the grief and pain of the bereaved family members.
