KYKL denies having link with three slain men

Imphal, January 22 2009: THE PROSCRIBED Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) has denied having link in any manner with three persons killed by the combined force of police commandos and AR a few days ago. Deputy Secretary, Publicity and Research, KYKL, Apabi Mangang stated in a press release that Khumukcham Thoiba (46) of Umathel Makha Leikai, who was shot dead in a fake encounter by a combined force ofThoubal Districrt Commandos and 21 Assam Rifles at Wabgai Leirak around 6.15 pm of January 19, had no relationship with the KYKL.

He further stated in his press release that Khumukcham Thoiba had earlier worked for KYKL, but had retired from the party in the month of August in 2002 due to ill-health.

Since then he had been living together with his wife and children at the house of his wife at Mahou Terakom village in Chandel district.

He eked out a living as a labourer.

A team of Thoubal district commandos had come to the house at about 2.30 pm of January 20 and told him, " Pabung, let's have a talk" and took him away.

Then he was shot dead and left his body at Wabgai Leirak Achouba around 6.20 pm of the same day, he stated.

Ningthoujam Ananda from Top Moirang Kampu was also arrested by Imphal west commandos from DM College campus at about 1.30 pm of January 20 and was shot dead on Kanglatongbi-Makhan Road.

All of them were innocent civilians, Apabi Mangan informed.
