Imphal, November 18 2008: MANY organisations have strongly condemned the brutal murder of a junior sub editor of Imphal Free Press, namely Konsam Rishikanta by unkown persons yesterday evening at Langgol hills.

The Editors' Forum Manipur has expressed shock and grief over the merciless murder of Rishikanta near Langgol Sangai Second Home yesterday evening.

Secretary of the Forum, N Sanatomba, while condemning the incident, expressed sharing of the sorrow of the bereaved family.

The Forum would extend support to all movements launched by the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union as regards the incident, Sanatomba vowed.

The Centre for Organisation Research and Education (CORE) strongly condemned the killing of Rishikanta and stated that one and all should condemn the brutality.

Programme Coordinator of CORE, Namdithiu Pamei appealed to the government to conduct public inquiry and award befitting punishment to those found guilty according to law.

All Manipur Newspaper Sales and Distributors' Association, while condemning the killing of Rishikanta, expressed solidarity to AMWJU in all movements launched by the union.

Centre for Social Development and the North East Dialogue Forum members (Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal, Manipur and Nagaland) have also strongly condemned the killing of a young journalist.

Such heinous act is a crime against the humanity, stated convenor of CSD, Kh Rebati Raman and appealed to all not to repeat such great mistake in future.

Integrated Rural Development Service Organisation (IRDSO) also condemned killing of a young and energetic sub editor of IFP.

The organisation expressed solidarity and heart-felt sorrow with the bereaved family.

All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) took strong exception to the killing of K Rishikanta and condemned it.

Tompok Likmabam, Secretary Publicity stated that the people of Manipur have been shouting all this years not to turn the weapons held by state and non state armed groups towards the innocent people and not to torture and kill a person without trial.

However, the killings go on unabated, he lamented.

Women Action for Development (WAD), while condemning the killing of Rishikanta, stated that the incident is not just a big blow to the fourth estate but to all civilians of Manipur which signifies that there is not security of life.

All Manipur Govt Higher Secondary Lecturers' Welfare Association, Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN), All Club, Organisation, Association and Meira Paibee Lup (ACOAM-Lup), All Manipur Anti Drug Association (AMADA), United People's Front (UPF), Manipur, Threatened Indeigenous Peoples' Society (TIPS), Manipur, All India Students' Federation (AISF), Manipur State Council, Students Federation of India (SFI), Manipur State Committee, Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Manipur State Committee, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Manipur State Committee were also among those which issued press releases expressing vehement condemnations of the killing of a young journalist.
