Imphal, May 18 2009: One of two persons reportedly arrested by a team of Manipur police commandos around 3 pm of May 16 from near the Sajiwa Jail was found killed in an alleged encounter by a combined force of Thoual district police commandos and 23 AR at Laikot Cheeng under Lamlai Police Station at about 6.15 pm this evening.

The person killed by the combined force in the alleged encounter has been identified as one Loitongbam Satish @ Tomba (34), son of L Sharat of Oinam Thingel, Singjamei.

The other person, who was arrested along with the deceased, is Pebam Gunindro @ Gunen (46) of Haobam Marak Keisham Leikai.

His whereabouts are not yet known.

Families of the two persons have been trying to trace their whereabouts since they heard that they had been arrested by a team of police commandos in the afternoon of Saturday last.

Ruling MLA of Singjamei AC I Hemochandra along with other MLAs and ministers have been trying to find out who had arrested them since the last two days.

They had asked the SPs concerned of Imphal East and West district police to find out who had arrested them and produce them.

Meanwhile, police said that they recovered one .32 pistol along with a magazine containing five live rounds, three bullets AK-47 rifle and two detonators from the possession of the deceased Satish.

Police also found one voter's identity card from the dead body which showed that the deceased could be Satish.

Prior to the killing of Satish in the so-called encounter, Satish's wife Ranjita and Gunindro's wife Babita told reporters this afternoon at Oinam Thingel that their husbands were arrested by security personnel in civil dress around 3 pm of Saturday last from near Sajiwa jail and took them away in a bullet proof vehicle.

They had registered written reports with Singjamei and Heingang Police Stations regarding their arrest by unknown security personnel.

They have also approached the local MLA who is trying to trace their whereabouts.

But police have not revealed anything about the whole incident, the two aggrieved ladies lamented.

They appealed to those security personnel who had arrested their husbands to take pity of their little children and release them safe and sound.

Even if they were guilty of certain actions, please give them a chance to correct themselves, the ladies prayed.

The two men had gone to Sajiwa jail to meet elder brother of Satish, who is a PLA activist by the name of Parunkanta @ Petu on May 16.While coming out of the jail after meeting Parunkanta, some persons who resembled security personnel in civil dress and were waiting for them in a white colour bullet proof Gypsy arrested them at gun point and took them away in the Gypsy.

Two boys who worked at a restaurant near the jail conveyed the message of their arrest to the family members, the two ladies told reporters.

They also said that the security personnel who were five in number talked with Satish and Gunindro for a while before forcibly pushing them up into the Gypsy.

The Honda Activa (MN-01Q 3456) which the two men had used was ridden away by a man in track suit.

The bullet proof Gypsy and the man in track suit on the Honda Activa drove away Khurai.

The deceased Satish is survived by his wife and a six-month old baby.
