Addressing media persons today at the Manipur Press Club, the Convenor of the Working Group of Meira Paibee Movement, L Memchoubi said that several lives have been lost in staged encounters since the imposition of AFSPA, 1958 in the state.

Under the shade of the draconian Act, killings on mere suspicion and other charges have been unleashed unabated.

Memchoubi further said that no punishment to guilty personnel has been given till date.

She added that the Meira Paibees are not convinced over the initiative of the security forces in taking up some positive measures to calm tension.

Supplementing her claims of excess committed by the security forces, Memchoubi pointed out the case of Manorama killing and the recent killing of L Satish.

She also lashed out against the militants and said that they have violated the right to life of the people.

She further stated that the militants are also responsible for the lost of many lives.

Memchoubi said that considering the high numbers of such killings in the hands of the security forces in this year, a poster campaign has been launched against it.

In the first phase, the campaign was launched at Khurai, Uripok, Khwairamband Keithel, Iroishemba, Sagolband, Tera Naoremthong, Sanakeithel, Longa Koireng, Langjing, Singjamei, Keishampat, and Kwakeithel since May 29 .

The campaign will be launched at various places in the state starting it from Churachandpur from June 19, she said while appealing the people to extend cooperation in the campaign.
