Bodies of migrant workers flown to West Bengal

Imphal, June 13 2009: The dead bodies of the four non-locals murdered at the Central Agriculture University (CAU), Iroisemba in Imphal West district of Manipur by some armed miscreants late Thursday night were flown to their native place (West Bengal) in an Air India flight on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, a reliable source informed that Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress leader, Mamta Bannerjee had asked chief minister of Manipur, O.Ibobi Singh and state director general of police (DGP) to send the dead bodies of the non-locals to West Bengal and also the detailed reports of the killings.

The source also added officials from Kolkata would be arriving in Imphal Sunday to look upon the prevailing situation and the condition of non-locals in the state.

As per reports, the Trinamool leader had also apprised the Prime Minister of India of the killing of migrant workers in the state of Manipur and their condition.

Mamata Banerjee is reported to have demanded a fool proof security for the non-locals in Manipur.

Meanwhile, under the supervision of the deputy commissioner of Imphal West district, a sum of Rs.60/ each was distributed to the non-locals sheltered at Marwari Dhramshala and Kalibari mandir, Thangal Bazaar, for their per day meals.

Medical and water assistance was also given them.

The monetary assistance provided under the Government of Manipur is likely to continue until the situation comes to a normal.

About 175 are said to be as the Dharamsala while another 69 are said to be at the Kalibari in Thangal bazar.
