Torbung residents protest arrest of 4 locals by police

Bishnupur, October 10 2009: Residents of Torbung today staged a sit-in protest demanding unconditional release of four locals arrested by police in connection with beaten to death of a man on alleged attempt to thieve a rickshaw on last October 6 .

In the aftermath of the beaten to death of one Md Abdul Hashim (45) son of Naship Ali of Kwakta ward no.7 by residents of the Torbung, four locals identified as Khaidem Ibobi (61), Khaidem Nungshi (31), Lourembam Apabi (37) and Thangjam Rabei (70) were arrested by the Moirang Police.

The sit-in protest at Torbung Bazar was organized by the Torbung Panthoibi Meira Paibi Lup jointly with Bangala Meira Paibi Lup and Kangbai Nupi Khunai Lup.

Slogans like "Release innocent people without any condition, we condemn arresting innocent people," etc.

were displayed at the protest site.

Participating womenfolk warned that if the four persons be failed to release without any condition, other intensified forms of agitations will be launched.
