Imphal, January 04 01 2010: In the first gun violence of the year, two suspected cadres of PULF have been slain in a reported encounter with a combined security force on the road connecting Heirok to Karongthel in Thoubal district this morning.

According to a press release issued by Thoubal SSP Clay Khongsai, Thoubal Police commandos received a specific tip-off that some PULF cadres have moved from Laiching Minou village towards Phundrei.

Acting on it, a combined team of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 34 AR rushed to Heirok which happened to be their (UGs) exit route at about 2.40 am.

As the combined team approached Karongthel Makha near Heirok Litan Makhong, they came under fire from automatic weapons at about 4.35 am.

The combined team retaliated immediately resulting in a shoot-out for about 15 minutes during which two suspected cadres of PULF were killed.

On searching the area later, one AK rifle, two magazines, 22 live rounds, one 9 mm pistol, one magazine with six live rounds, one point 36 hand grenade and one demand letter of PULF were recovered, added Clay Khongsai.

Police have picked up the corpses and deposited at RIMS mortuary.
