Imphal, December 02 2009: Failed bomb attacks were launched by suspected insurgents at the houses of a special contractor in Ukhrul district and an Executive Engineer of the PHED in Imphal East district during the last 24 hours.

Police said, the attacks were linked with extortion demands.

Last night miscreants hurled a handgrenade at the house of special contractor VS Khashim, a resident of Hamreikhong of Ukhrul district headquarters.

It failed to explode.

Troops of Assam Rifles have taken the handgrenade along with them to destroy this morning, police said here.Another bomb hurled at the house of executive engineer, Sanasam Lokendro of PEHD at Thongju in Imphal east district last night also missed.

The same was seized by the police and defused today morning, the report added.
