Imphal, June 02 2009: Troops of 20 Assam Rifles handed over two dead bodies of militants to the Tengnoupal police station in Chandel district of Manipur this morning.

While handing over the two dead bodies, authorities of the Assam Rifles stated that they were killed in encounter at Maipi- Angreshu village some 30 km away from Tengnoupal police station of Chandel district last night at around 8.15 pm.

A G-3 rifles along with two magazines loaded with 20 live rounds and a Lethod gun with two lethod shells were recovered from the slain suspects according to the Assam Rifles authority reporting to the police.

The dead bodies which Assam Rifles believed to belong to UNLF have been brought to Imphal and deposited at RIMS morgue for identification.

A statement of the PRO, IGAR (South) stated that the incident occurred at around 9.30 pm when an ambush party of the 20 Assam Rifles observed two individuals moving on the track.

On being challenged by troops, the individuals fired and tried to flee taking advantage of thick foliage.

Troops came out to the flank of the militants and killed both the UGs.
