Imphal, May 29 2009:
In protest against the detention of volunteers of student bodies including leaders in connection with murder of professor Md Islamuddin, students of various schools across the four valley district carried out rally at various places apart from staging sit-in protest today.
The students also protested against attitude of government trying to arrest student volunteers in connection with the case.
Students of Standard Robert English Higher Secondary School and Temple of Learning located at Canchipur carried out rally to the road from their schools to Canchipur MU gate in protest against the government attitude of detention of student leaders.
Slogans expressing strong protest against police detention of the student volunteers and leveling baseless charges on them were displayed in the rally.

However, police who arrived there blocked them and escorted upto their respective school but the students continued their protest with sit-in protest at the gate of respective gates.
Sit-in protests were also staged at their respective school premises by the students of the Don Public School, Iboton Memorial Academy, Mongsangei and Mukta Institute of Education.
Police also foiled another rally of the students of students of Bethel English School and St John English School, Nambol.
Police used hard language while asking why the rally is being carried out.
After the rally was foiled, students staged sit-in protest in their respective school gates.
Speaking to media persons, a teacher of the Bethel English School said that killing professor inside the university campus is a highly condemnable but in connection with the murder case, detention of innocent students has affected in the academic atmosphere of the schools.
The raid conducted at the hostel in the follow up action to the killing of the professor in thinking that the perpetrators are taking shelter is like heating to the innocent when police unable to arrest the culprits, he added.
He also demanded immediate release of the students in the police custody so that students can study with peaceful atmosphere.
In Imphal east district Kanan devi Memorial English School, Hundred Flower English School, RK Sanatombi Memorial School located at Pangei, Leishemba Maheikol, Chingarel, Lamjing Meira Sindam Shang at Pourabi also staged sit-in protest on the same matter.
In Thoubal district also various schools like the Somerendrosana higher Secondary School, Thoubal Kshetri Leikai, Vision Creative of Sceince, Thoubal Okram staged sit-in protest.
Schools located in the heart of the Imphal city staged like the Tamphasana Girls Higher Secondary School also staged sit-in protest.
During the protest slogans like "We Protest against arrest of students, Release the students immediately, don't try to eliminate student bodies, don't try to show students are undergrounds, protect the students etc.
were displayed.
