Imphal, May 27 2009: The State cabinet has decided to hand over the case of murder of MU Professor Md Islamuddin to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The cabinet has also approved paying Rs 10 lakh to the family of the professor as ex-gratia compensation and also providing an appropriate job to one of the two sons of the deceased professor.

On the other hand, the Joint Action Committee against the Brutal Killing of Dr Md Islamuddin, Professor (Economics Dept) and Proctor of MU in a statement today stated that the last rites of the professor's mortal remains will be held tomorrow at 3 pm with a condolence service at 10 am.

The state cabinet at its meeting held at 2 pm in the conference hall of the Chief Minister's Secretariat under the chair of the Chief Minister, O Ibobi discussed the situations arising in the aftermath of the murder of the professor.

After thorough discussions, the cabinet meeting decided to hand over the case to the CBI.

The cabinet also approved the proposal of the state home department to pay a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of the deceased as the professor was a victim to 'terrorists'.

The meeting also resolved to provide an appropriate job to one of the sons of the professor in the Manipur University.

Two sons of the professor hold master degree.
