Bakery hawker shot dead

Imphal, December 26 2009: Yet another non-local was shot dead by unknown armed persons today afternoon taking the number of non-locals shot dead during the current year 2009 to 30. Another six non-local men were also wounded during the same period.

The non-local, a bakery hawker, was shot dead by unknown miscreants near a grocery shop, KB Enterprises at Sagolband Tera Tongbram Leikai this afternoon at about 3.15 pm.

Police said that the deceased could be one Mandal Pal from Bihar.

The exact identity is yet to be established.

Police have picked-up the dead body and kept it at RIMS morgue.

Local residents said, the hawker was seen distributing bakery items to the shops located at Sogolband Tera during the past two month.

An unknown youth came on a motorcycle when the non-local was about to leave the KB Enterprises shop after delivering items for the day.

On being hit by bullets, he ran towards the shop but he dropped dead, succumbing to his injuries before he could reach the shop.

Two stray bullets hit the front glass of the shop.

The shopkeeper escaped miraculously.

Police recovered a projectile of 9mm pistol from the spot.

Police immediately rushed to the spot and a manhunt operation was launched in the area to track down the perpetrators.

However, no report of rounding up of any suspect was received till the time of filing this report.

With only five days left to end the current year, a total of 30 non-locals including today's victim had been killed while at least six others had been injured.
