Imphal, July 25 2009: The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has decided to suspend its stir against the government to demand a white paper on the detention of five students including the Education and Academic Affairs secretary of the students' body under NSA but to approach the law court to redress their grievances.

A statement issued by the President of DESAM, LC Santosh lamented that the government has turned a deaf ear to the democratic agitations of the students' body in demanding to produce a white paper on the detention of the students under NSA.

The statement pointed out that instead of paying attention to the demands, the government has made concerted attempts to arrest the leaders of DESAM and pressurise the students' leaders with several threats apart from contemplating to defame the students' body to the public.

Stating that the government is a tyrannical one, LC Santosh observed that the people will be caught in between the standoff of this 'despotic government' and DESAM, he added that the students' body will suspend its agitation against the government and rather approach the law court.

It also stated that the government's inability to produce a white paper on the detention of five students under NSA has clearly indicated that the students are guiltless.
