One commando injured in attack by unknown insurgents

Imphal, November 23, 2009: A police commandos sustained injury today when rebels ambushed a team of Imphal east district police commandos travelling along the Tinsid road under Porompat police station in Imphal east district.

Rebels laid the ambush to the police commandos were traveling on their vehicle along the Tinsid road near Megha School this evening at about 4.30 pm.

A major tragedy that could have occurred to the police commandos avoided as the rocket shell targeting the police commandos by the attackers failed to explode.

The rocket hit the vehicle but did not explode.

A commando personnel identified as Irom Bimol (35), son of Tomba of Langthabal the rocket shell grazed his left ear.

He also sustained in the leg and chest when he tried to avoid the ambush.

He has been operated on at Shija Hospitals to make up his deformed ear, source said.

The ambush was laid by the rebels from the uphill in which police commando vehicle retaliated with guns.

Attackers managed escape from the spot after the ambush.

Imphal East SP and his under rank officers with additional police force rushed to the spot as soon as the ambush was laid and conduct search operation in Sanjenbam and its surrounding villages located after crossing the Tinsid hill which is around three kilometer away from the ambush side.

Traffic along the Tinsid road and moving out of villagers were blocked during the cordon search operation bit no arrest or picked up was made, reports said.
