Imphal, January 16, 2010: Assam Rifles today suspended counter insurgency operations launched at Loktak Lake area even as the jawan who suffered bullet injury at the head on the first day of operation on Thursday at Kelakhong area of Loktak Lake died due to the serious injury.

Doctors of the Shija Hospital, Imphal where the injured jawan identified as Yumnam Raju (22) son of Y Subon of Lamjao Mayai Leikai was referred from Leimakhong Army Hospital declared him dead today at 10 am, police said.

Troops of 33 Assam Rifles launched the counter insurgency operation at Kelakhong at the shore of the Loktak Lake and its adjoining areas starting from early hour of January 14 (Thursday).

On the first day of the operation they clashed with undergrounds, injuring a personnel of the troop.

Assam Rifles authority so far had not said any word on operation but, SP of Bishnupur district, Jayentakumar had confirmed the launching of operations by the Central Security in some areas within the lake area under his district jurisdiction.

State security force was not involved in the operation.

Local source said that during the operations troops fired guns and bombs in the bushes and other places suspected to hide outs of the undergrounds but they could not say whether the troop clashed with undergrounds.
