Two killed in clash at border

Imphal, November 14 2008: TROOPS OF Assam Rifles killed at least two suspected militants near the international border with Myanmar on the Manipur side and recovered arm and ammunitions, official source said Friday.

Official reports said that the two suspects were killed in a clash with the troops of the 31 Assam Rifles locating its outpost near the H Monjang Kuki village near the international border, police said.

An AK-47 rifle along with a magazine loaded with 10 live rounds, a China make hand grenade and a Japan make wireless set were recovered from the possession of the slain cadres, Assam Rifles source said.

The clash occurred in the wee hour today at around 1.30 am in the village which is located some 10 km south west from the Moreh police station, police said.

The slain men could one Loukhanhou Baite (29) son of Panmeithang Baite of Moreh ward no.III and his younger brother Khupthenpao (25).The identities could not be confirmed officially as family is yet to turn up to the police to claim the dead bodies.

Bodies of the slain militants along with the recovered weapons have been handed over to the Moreh police this morning at around 7 am, the report said.

Later, police brought up the dead bodies to RIMS morgue Imphal for official identifications, the report added.
