Imphal, June 12 2009: The killing of migrant labours inside the university campus has disturbed the academic atmosphere of the Central Agriculture University Friday as students and teachers carried out a sit-in protest denouncing the violent act inside the university campus.

Two gunmen intruded inside the CAU campus located just next to the Iroishemba Zoological Garden (Second Home of the Sangai) last night at around 8 pm and shot guns at six labourers housing at a makeshift camp inside the campus after herding them at an empty place in the same campus.

Denouncing the act of the miscreants performing violent act inside the university, students and teaching staffs of the university staged a sit-in protest from 10.30 am till 4 pm boycotting classes of the day.

The violent act committed inside the university campus has greatly disturbed the academic atmosphere of university, said the protestors expressing that they could not agree with the turning out of university a killing field.

"It is not good to commit such kind of violent inside a study centre where students and teachers were also housing.

Last night incident has cause panic and fear among the students housing at the hostel specially to the girls," associate professor Nabachandra who took part in the protest said.

Placards with the slogans "We want to study, help us, we want education, a free zone, no killing inside campus, don't disturbed in our studies, don't given hindrance in university development," etc.

According another professor participating in the sit-in protest, the incident of shooting to non-locals took place in front of hostel.

It has caused fear and panic to the students housing at the hostel.

Students and teachers who witnessed the incident are feeling fear and anxiety in the aftermath of the tragic incident.

Apart from this, the exams are for the B Sc Agri is to begin from June 22 and other are knocking at the door, the incident occurred while the students are on hectic preparation for the exam.

"We are not satisfied with the incident of killing people inside the university campus when condemnation against the murder of a professor inside the MU campus is still pouring down," the professor said urging all concerns not to repeat such incident in future.
