Imphal, November 07 2008: AT LEAST two militants were gunned down on Friday by a combined force of Imphal west police commandos and troops of 39 Assam Rifles this afternoon at around 1.20 pm near the Sekmai Bottling Gas Plant located on the western side of the NH-39 under Sekmai police station.

Police recovered a maruti brand car (MN01-K0144) and two 9 mm pistol loaded with ammunitions from the spot where the two slain men were found lying.

Police said they were killed in the retaliatory action of the police commandos.

When the police commandos signaled to stop for frisking and checking to the car, suspects opened fire fired towards them and sped up in a bid to escape.

The commandos chased after them and killed both near the Sekmai Bottling Plant located on the western side of the NH-39, police said.

From the driving licenses recovered from the positions of the two slain persons, police suspected the two slain persons as Salam Ranjit son of S Yaima of Thanga Heisnam Leikai and Yumnam Binoy son of Y Tamu Meetei of Lamjao Mayai Leikai.

However for official confirmation, Sekmai police retrieved the dead bodies and deposited at RIMS morgue for official procedures this afternoon.

At the place of occurrence, dead body of one of the slain man was found lying some meter away from car while the other one was found dead inside the car.

The windshields of the vehicles were also found shattered.
