Four killed in rival fights
AR post in Ukhrul district under attack

Imphal, December 05 2009: At least four rebels have been killed in gunfights among rebels in two separate places in Tamenglong and Chandel districts even as a post of Assam Rifles was also under attack by rebels at a place in Ukhrul district in different gun violence incidents reported in the last two days in state.

Three cadres of Kuki National Front (KNF) were killed in an ambush laid by cadres of rival United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) at Longlong Lamkhai, around 30 kilometer south of Nungba police station in the interior Tamenglong district on December 3 last.

The dead bodies were brought up at RIMS morgue, Imphal today for official procedure.

According to police the incident took place at about 1.30 pm of Thursday.

They were identified as Dony alias Khupmang (27), son of Khuphao of Mongjang village of Assam, Sathang (27), son of Seimang of Heijang village of Churachandpur district and Paotinlam @ Luxman son of Nehthang village of Nabin village.

Nungba police said the dead bodies were collected by them after the information of lying dead bodies at the place was passed to the police yesterday and reached Imphal today due to bad road condition.

Families received the dead bodies after post mortem at RIMS morgue.

After killing the cadres, UTLA had reportedly taken away weapons from their possessions.

Another gunfight between two rebel groups reported near the Khoibu village in Chandel district today at about 1.30 pm.

In the clash one cadre of a group killed while the same group captured a cadre of the other group.

Report of the gun clash confirmed by the police but details could not be culled out as they could not enter to the area for the time being.

Meanwhile, a group of unknown rebels attacked at a post of the 34 Assam Rifles (E-Coy) at Khoiripok under Karasom police station of Ukhrul district bordering with Thoubal district Friday evening at about 6.30 pm, a police report said.

No casualty reported on the AR side in the attack but there were reports of Assam Rifles troops launching a massive search operation in areas surrounding to nab the attackers.
