KSO, ZSUM demand action against security force

Imphal, May 04 2009: The Kuki Students' Organisation, General Headquarters (KSO-GHQ) and the Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) urged the Chief Minister for fitting punishment against the security personnel involved in the shooting of four civilians at Khundong village on May 2 last.

The students' bodies also threatened to call a 24-hour statewide bandh if the Chief Minister fails to come up with an acceptable solution within 24 hours in the shooting incident of four civilians by security forces.

A joint memorandum submitted today to the Chief Minister signed by the Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) Chairman K Humaliabou and the Vice-President of KSO (GHQ), Mangcha Baite pointed out that the persons whom the security forces shot at Khundong village on May 2 were lumbermen while conveying their resolved to secure justice for the wronged and fight for the rights of the people.

The representation stated that the victims �Manggou Haokip (19) son of Ngulsei of Kangchup Awlmun, Seilen Haokip (35) son of Janglun of K Songlung village, Majakamang of Nurathel Tabam village and Chaotombi (37) son of Chaojai of Maklang �were shot by the security forces after waylaying them when they were coming to take refuge in the village on the day the exchange of gunfire took place between the security personnel and a militant group in the forest.

Demanding stringent action against the guilty security personnel, the joint memorandum of the two students' bodies also seeks adequate compensation for the injured victims, who have been treated at Shija Hospital.
