Two among three killed at Yairipok Pechi were cousins

Imphal, December 03 2008: WITH THE establishment of the identities, two of the three killed by combined forces of Assam Rifles and Thoubal police commandos on Monday (December 1) last are found to be cousins.

Alleging that they were killed in fake encounter by the security forces and police and with a demand to book the culprits, the Indo-Myanmar section of the NH-39 was blocked at Kakwa today disturbing the normal traffic in the area.

Irate protestors under the banner of a joint action committee formed against the killing of the three youths also stormed the Singjamei police station today at around 10.30 am.

They also staged a sit-in protest at Kakwa Bazar.

Later, representatives of the JAC called on with the chief minister in the later bungalow under the initiative of the local MLA, Bijoy Koijam and submit a memorandum containing their demand for probe into the killing.

The chief minister has given assurance to investigate into the matter and find out the truths with regard to the allegation of killing them in fake encounter.

The JAC in turn The combined forces killed the three youths in a joint counter insurgency operation at Yairipok Pechi Hill in Thoubal district on the evening of last Monday at around 6 pm.

Claiming that they were killed in an encounter, the combined force had said that a .32 pistol along with magazine loaded with four live rounds, a 9 mm pistol with magazine loaded three live rounds and one hand grenade recovered from the three slain suspected KCP activists.

The identities of the three slain suspects were established only today by their respective families at RIMS morgue where police kept them for official identifications.

Two of them � Waikhom Chingkheinganba alias Somo (27) son of Naba and Waikhom Rabi alias Kabi (26) son of late Achoubi, both hailing from Ningomthong Kitna Panung in Imphal East � are identified to be cousin brothers.

The third victim has been identified as Wangkheimayum Hemanta (26) son of W Samu of Kakwa Lamdaibung.

He was a friend of the slain brothers, according to locals.

The dead bodies which are lying at RIMS morgue will be received by the families for last rites.

On the other hand, identities of three more youths killed by the police commandos and security forces yesterday have been established today.

The two youths killed at Bamdiyar under Nambol police station by a combined force of Bishnupur police commandos and troops of 12 Maratha Li on November 29 night were identified as Paogam Kipgen (27) son of Maikhothang Kipgen of Casina Zonhol and John Rana (28) son of Lalji Rana of S Lajang village.

Another youth killed by the Imphal west police commandos at Chagangei Uchekon last evening has been identified as Kshetrimayum Ranjan (27) son of Noni of Nagamapal Soram Leirak.
