Imphal, October 31 2009: Heavy gun fight erupted between troops of Assam Rifles and cadres of UNLF in the interior Aibol village of Chandel district.

Police report said killing three AR troopers including a JCO but proscribed UNLF claimed killing seven AR troopers including a captain.

Reports received here said that the gun clash erupted between troops of 43 Assam Rifles and cadres of Manipur People Army (MPA), armed wing of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) this morning at about 8 am near Aibol village in insurgent dominated Khengjoy area in interior Chandel district.

Police as well as Assam Rifles source here said that at least three soldiers of Assam Rifles including a JCO killed in the gunfight which reported initiated by the MPA of UNLF.

Detail reports could not be immediately extracted due to communication gap.

UNLF in a statement email to this correspondent claimed that seven troopers including a captain killed in the ambush laid by the cadres of 293 battalion of MPA.

They also collected five weapons including four INSAS rifles and an AK along with a binocular and a RT and some dossiers of the AR.

The statement signed by its senior publicity secretary Ksh Yoiheiba further, unable to withstand to the attack, AR troopers scattered themselves in different direction.
