Imphal, January 22 2009: The Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI has sought asked the state police department to furnish the details of the murder case of a journalist, junior sub-editor of English daily, Imphal Free Press which Manipur government had handed over to the bureau.

Following the received of a communiqu� from the joint director (SC-II), CBI, New Delhi on January 20, state home department has intimated the director general of police (DGP) to furnish the details of the case to the Home Department at the earliest for further forwarding the same at the earliest, an official source said Thursday.

Mention may be made that junior sub-editor of the local English daily, the Imphal Free Press named Konsam Rishikanta Singh (22) son of K Budhichandra Snigh of Ningomthong Sairom Leirak, Imphal east was gunned down by some unknown persons from point blank range killing him on the spot at Langol, the second home of Sanghai on November 18 evening last year.

Decrying the murder, the publication of local dailies suspended from November 20 following a decision of the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union or AMWJU.

The suspension of publication lasted for 12 days and commenced from December 3 .

By dropping its earlier decision to hand over the case of assignation of a journalist to Special Investigation Team, SIT of the state home department, Manipur government decided to hand over the case to Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI and the state government issued the ordered probe into the case.

After the order was issued CBI on December 22 last year, asked the state authority to furnish the details of the case in the prescribed Performa and self contained note indicating the background of the case stating that the bureau is yet to receive by the state police department.

Special Investigation Team, SIT of the state police department headed by IGP (Intelligence), LM Khoute has already started investigation into the case of assassination of Rishikanta.

An order regarding the matter was issued today by the state additional home secretary H Gyan Prakash on November 25 .

The order said "Governor of Manipur is please to constitute a Special Investigation Team, SIT to investigate case registered as FIR no.150(11)08 u/s 302/34 IPC 25(1-B)-A Act.

OF Lamphel police station relating to the killing of Konsam Rishikanta (22) son of K Budhichandra Singh of Ningomthong Saikhom Leira, Imphal east wh was working as junior sub-editor of Imphal Free Press.

Since then the SIT headed by LM Khoute, IPS, Inspector General of Police (Int), Manipur and assisted by K Tomba Singh MPS additional SP, Imphal west and N Herojit Meetei, MPS, SDPO, Lamphel started investigation into the fact and circumstances leading the to murder of the young journalist.

No time bound for the investigation is given in the order but said that it will complete at the earliest.
