Imphal, December 21 2008: IMPHAL EAST police commando on frisking and checking duty at Lamlong Bazar was under attack by some suspected undergrounds coming into a car tonight at around 7.20 pm.

In the follow up action, they recovered the vehicle from a spot lying between Kangla and Paknung village.

Official reports said that the suspected undergrounds fired with AK series rifles towards the police commandos while they were conducting frisking and checking to the passerby at around 7.20 pm after slowing down its speed.

At least 10 rounds of shots were fired towards the police personnel by the attackers before they speeded up the vehicles in a bid to escape.

The commandos also returned the firing.

None received casualty in the cross firing but some bullets hit at a pharmacy shop which located nearby the place where the commandos are performing their duties, the report said.

After the attack was conducted, the attackers escaped with the same Maruti Santro brand vehicle towards the Tisid road in which the police commandos chased after upto Kangla which the attackers proceeded.

Later, the attackers left behind the vehicle (MN-06L-4135) at a spot lying between Kangla and Phaknung and managed escape from the police commandos.

A lathod bomb was recovered from inside the vehicle, police said.
