CPI (ML) Gen Secy meets Sharmila

Imphal, January 21 2010: KN Ramachandran, General Secretary, CPI (ML) along with S Shyamsunder, Secretary, and other leaders of the Manipur State Committee of the CPI (ML) met Irom Sharmila Chanu, who is on an indefinite hunger strike demanding the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958, said a press release of the CPI (ML)., Manipur State Committee.

They were accompanied by Imma Taruni and other leading members of the Sharmila Kanba Lup.

KN Ramachandran while expressing solidarity with the struggle of Sharmila, assured her to take up this struggle at all India level in order to compel the Indian Government to withdraw the act.

According to the release, KN Ramachandran further stated that "it is high time that not only the people of Manipur and the North-East, but the progressive forces all over India should take it up as an urgent issue to be resolved".
