Three killed in separate encounters; two nabbed

Imphal, December 20 2008: POLICE COMMANDOS in joint operation with Assam Rifles killed at least three suspected underground activists in what they claim to be encounters tonight at different places.

Two activists including a woman of different outfits were also apprehended, police said.

Two of the suspects were gunned down by a combined force of Imphal west police commandos and troops of 33 Assam Rifles at Ishikha Chingthak, Imphal east under Lamlai police station around 7.40 pm while the other one was killed at Nongthombam village under Sekmai police station by another combined force of the same units around 8 pm, reports said.

A 9mm pistol with some live rounds was recovered from the possession of the two slain suspects at Ishikha while a country made carbine with ammunitions was seized from the slain suspect at Sekmai.

The dead bodies of the suspects have been collected from the spot by the police late tonight and deposited at RIMS morgue, the report added.

Meanwhile, a woman KCP (MC) member named Khumukcham Dabayenti (25), daughter of late Amubi of Sambram Maning Leikai was nabbed by a team of the Imphal east police commandos from Lamlong area this morning around 6.30 .

Yesterday also one KYKL activist named Kshetrimayum Sanjit @Thoi (28), son of Jiten of Kakwa Naorem Leikai was apprehended by the Imphal east commandos from Kongba area.
