Imphal, July 19 2009: The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has warned to launch further agitations if the government failed to produce white paper on the detention of students under NSA within three days.

In a statement, publicity and propaganda secretary of DESAM KC Ibomcha has also reacted over the statement of the Chief Minister who said on the floor of the ongoing Assembly that the detention of five students under NSA is not without reason and they were not arrested as students' leaders.

It categorically asked the significance of the CM's statement that 'the reason would be known to the people someday.

It also asked why the CM did not clearly state how the students were related to the killing of Prof Islamuddin if he said they were arrested in connection with that case.

Avowing to retract its agitations if the government produced a white paper on the detention of the students within three days, the students' body asserted to intensify the stirs if the government fails to fulfill their demand.

Meanwhile, reacting to the statement of DGP Y Joykumar on NETV on July 18, who said that DESAM is the frontal organisation of the militant group KYKL, the students' body stated that it was an attempt to cast the reputation of civil society organisations of the state in bad light.

Challenging to produce a white paper on the charge that the students' body has link with the militant organisation, the statement further offered to voluntarily disband the organisation if the charges are proven.

It charges that the allegation was made in order to facilitate the banning of the students' body while adding that legal help will be sought for defaming the students' organisation.

At the same time, the statement also acknowledges the support it receives during the 72 hours general strike.

Further it warns to take up various agitations including imposition of curfew in government offices, banning supply of essential commodities like water to the residences of Ministers and MLAs, and closing down educational institutions by declaring emergency.
