Imphal, December 18 2009: A youth said to have been abducted by some unknown persons who came in an auto-rickshaw has been killed by the Thoubal police commandos in an alleged encounter last night at Sangai Yumpham Mairel Khul under Thoubal police station.

The slain youth has been identified today as Md Ibothem @ Najir (37), son of Md Jameruddin of Yairipok Ningthoumanai, a former PULF activist, now retired and staying at home.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.

Police said, he was killed in an encounter between some underground cadres and a team of Thoubal police commandos at about 9.10 pm yesterday at Sangai Yumpham under Thoubal PS.

Police recovered one pistol, a magazine loaded with five live rounds and a hand grenade.

However, family members said that he was abducted by some unknown persons in civil dress while he was bathing at the river yesterday at about 2 pm coming with an auto-rickshaw.

Police commandos on a Gypsy vehicle was also witnessed by the locals who were at the river bank at the time his abduction.

Family received the dead body after postmortem at RIMS morgue today.
