Doctors to cease work

Imphal, October 25 2009: Doctors of the state under the aegis of the Indian Medical Association, Manipur State Branch have decided to cease work on coming October 28 and stage a three hour sit-in protest from 10 am to 1 pm to register a strong protest over the brutal murder of their colleague, Huidrom Binodkumar by unknowns.

Announcing this at a press conference held the IMA House, Lamphelpat, President Dr A Dwijamani said doctors are harassed and threatened at many instances in the state but killing of Dr Binodkumar is the first of its kind that attempt life of a doctor with "intention".

The IMA took it seriously and doctors discussed the matter in an emergency general body meeting held yesterday.

The meeting resolved to stage a three hour long sit-in protest on October 28 showing strong denounce to the murder of Dr Binodkumar.

The protest will start from 10 am and will conclude at 1 pm and doctors will cease work of the day also.

The meeting also decided to stick black batches on this day.

Doctors serving at JN Hospitals and RIMS will also not attain OPD duty on this day from 10 am till 1pm.The same will also be affected to other healthcare centres like PHD, district hospitals etc.

Only emergency will attain by the doctors, he added.

The incident of brutal murder of a doctor will also be put to the knowledge of the IMA headquarters at New Delhi.

Memorandums will also be submitted to the Governor and chief minister, which a copy will also be forwarded to the state DGP.

The meeting strongly condemned the brutal murder of the doctor and also conveyed a condolence message to the bereaved family Dr Djiwamani said adding the after sit-in protest, IMA will hold another round of meeting for their future course of action.
