Doctor robbed of Rs 2 lakh, brutally murdered

Imphal, October 22 2009: Miscreants have killed a retired medical superintendent officer who went missing after withdrawn of Rs two lakhs from his bank account yesterday day.

Family pointed out the killing related with an incident of arrest of a man who demanded money from the doctor sometime back.

Decrying the murdered of the retired doctor, locals formed a JAC and called 24-hour total road blockade on the stretch of NH-39 from Yaiskul to Singajamei Bazar.

The blockade will be started from midnight tonight.

The dead body of the 60-year old former medical superintend of Bishnupur district, Doctor Huidrom Binodkumar of Yaiskul Chingakham Leikai, Imphal was recovered from a hut at the paddy field at Ishikhapat near Yumnam Patlou eight kilometer north east of Heingang police station this morning.

The dead body with several stabbed marks on his body recovered from Ishikhapat some 20 km north of Imphal this morning.

Heingang police of Imphal east retrieved the dead body from the spot and deposited at RIMS morgue.

Binodkumar retired as medical superintendent of state TB Officer, Bishnupur February this year on superannuation from the government service.

He went out from home yesterday at about 10 am in connection with withdrawal of his pension amount from the U Co Bank, Thangal Bazar with his a scooter bearing registration no.MNA-4590, according to the family members.

He came back without his scooter after then and went out again at about 1.30 pm.

He was seen moving with a man on BT road in front of Johnstone Higher Secondary School by some persons known to him.

After he failed to return home till late, his wife Nonibala went to the U Co bank where he had gone for withdrawal of the money and confirmed that he had withdrawn Rs 2 lakh from his account.

A sister of the doctor recalling an incident related with extortion demand on the doctor expressed the murder related with incident in which the man who was behind the serving of extortion money behind the murder.

She recalled that some time back, her brother Binodkumar treated a woman hailing from Khurai.

During her treatment, the husband of the woman snatched his gold chain and Rs 20,000 .

The man further served a demand of Rs five lakh from the doctor in the name of a Kuki based underground group.

In the aftermath of the incident, some unknown persons came to the house of Dotor Binodkumar in connection with the monetary demand.

Among them, the woman he treated was also included.

After the incident, the doctor lodged a complaint with the police and the husband of the woman was arrested in the followed up action and lodged to jail.

He was released from the jail sometime back.

Such incident related with monetary demand occurred, she recalled hinting of linking the murder with the series of events.

Decrying the murder of the doctor, locals imposed 24-hour bandh on the stretch of the NH-39 from Yaiskul to Singjamei effective from this midnight tonight.

Locals also staged a sit-in protest at Yaiskul to register a strong protest against murder of the doctor.

The bandh was called by JAC formed in connection with the murder of the Doctor Binodkumar today with A Mema as convener.

According to a statement of the JAC, if the police failed to find out the culprit(s) at the earliest, they will resort to intensify their agitation further.

Protests also demanded finding and booking of the culprit(s) at the earliest and award appropriate punishment to them.
