Imphal, January 21 2009: AN UNVERIFIED number of personnel of 27 Assam Rifles this evening allegedly shot dead six of their colleagues and wounded two, and fled carrying all the arms and ammunitions issued to the deceased and wounded personnel.

The incident reportedly happened around 5 pm today at a post of 17 AR, located about 15 kms west of Chingai Police Station.

Among those personnel who fatally attacked their colleagues and fled was one TS Tangkhul, according to reports reaching here.

A strong team of police from Ukhrul district headquarters rushed to the AR post at about 9 pm tonight.

Though clear details were not available even to the police, it was learnt that such an incident of shoot out among the AR personnel at the post had happened causing fatalities, a police officer told Hueiyen Lanpao late tonight.

He said that a Junior Commissioned Officer was among those killed.
