Imphal, November 14 2009: Two suspected rebels killed today in gunfight with troops of Assam Rifles near the international border with Myanmar even as a huge cr�che of ammunitions recovered by a combined force of Imphal west police commandos and troops of Assam Rifles from Arong Nongmaikhong area this late afternoon.

Official reports said here said that the gunfight took place between the troops of 31 Assam Rifles and rebels this morning at about 4 am in the forest area of Chawangphai village located at between border pillar 80 and 81, some 8 km south east of Moreh police station of Chandel district.

An M-16 Rifle with magazine loaded with 12 rounds of ammunitions, a 9 mm pistol loaded with four live rounds, an RPG shell with booster recovered from the possession of the slain persons.

The bodies along with the recovery items were handed over to Moreh police station, reports said.

Both the slain suspects wear camouflage dress.

For official procedure Moreh police has transported them to Imphal, the report added.

Police report quoting Assam Rifles statement that the two suspected rebels were killed during a brief gunfight this morning when a group of well armed rebels.

Police suspected one of the slain men belongs to Arkanese (a tribe of Burma).

Meanwhile, a combined force of Imphal west police commandos led Additional SP and a column of 26 Assam Rifles recovered a huge cr�che of ammunitions during a counter insurgency operation at Arong Nongmaikhong area in Thoubal district this afternoon at about 3 pm.

The recovered items were 30 lethod bombs, 1200 rounds of M-16 ammunitions and 2500 rounds of AK-56 ammunitions.

Three sets of wireless (Kenwood) also recovered, both the Imphal west police commandos and PIB (Defense Wing) claimed.

The operation in the area launched based on a specific input of some banned undergrounds are planning to lay an ambush to security personnel at the area.

The combined force entered to the area to foil the planned.

While trying to comb the area, UGs managed to escape taking advantage of the marshy land and thick grass/bush.
