Two ZRO cadres killed

Imphal, January 14 2010: Two activists of Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) were killed in rival clash with cadres of People Liberation Army (PLA) at Phiesat village in interior Churachandpur district close to the international border with Myanmar, police source said here today.

The clash between two rival groups occurred Wednesday evening at about 6 pm when ZRA cadres reportedly entered to the place where PLA cadres were stationing at Hyangtam Khunou villager under Singhat police station of Churachandpur.

The deceased cadres have been identified as Thanminlhun alias Tiger son of late Khupneimang of Sangaikot village and Thangzamaul alias Mark son of late V Liantlung of GCK Veng, New Lamka.

Funerals of the two deceased were held today by the group, highly reliable reports reaching here said.

Reports said the clash continued for about one hour.

Myanmar Army across the border entered near the borderline on hearing the sounds of gunfight.

But they retreated from the border after the firing ceased.

On the other hand, RPF/PLA in a statement informed that the clash occurred when the ZRO who has been "misguided" by the Indian government and its Army entered to the place where PLA cadres of 252 mobile battalion stationing with troops of Maratha Light.

The gunfight lasted for about one hour and on the side of the combined ZRA and Army, two killed and sustained injuries to several others.

No casualty on the PLA side, the statement signed by GM Changjou of the outfit added.

The statement further asked the ZRA not to do such act of colluding with the India Army in attacking to the outfit recalling that in the past too such incidents which resulted in the loss of life of many civilian villagers had occurred.

ZRA is not the enemy of RPF and its army wing PLA.

The outfit has separate view towards the ZRA, the statement informed.
