Imphal, March 05 2009:: With more supports coming in for the migrant workers staying at the Dhramshala in Imphal in the aftermath of migrant killings that took place in Imphal, the All Manipur Trade Union Council (AMTUC) has demanded the state government for stepping up immediate security measures in all localities occupied by the migrant workers.

The AMTUC also demanded that a state sponsored refugee camp be set up for the horrified migrants of the state.

Submitting a memorandum to the chief minister in this connection signed by president of the AMTUC.

Th.Rajesh and general secretary, L.Sotin Kumar, the council demanded the chief minister, O.Ibobi Singh, a financial help of Rs.5 lakhs each for the families of the deceased and that the expenditures of the family in their to and fro journey to their homes in Bihar be paid by the state government.

The AMTUC also demanded that special rehab centres are established in different districts of the state with proper security measures.

And for better security of the state, the trade council also demanded that the state police force be modernised and that special intelligence squad especially for the migrant workers was formed.

The state trade union also disclosed that no one has been booked in the murder of 16 migrants in March 2008 for further interrogation and questioned who was to be blamed in such a situation if the state administration was not be blamed.

In this regard, the AMTUC also demanded that a separate police force was set up to deal with crime against the migrant workers.

Further demanding that proper food and lodge is given to the migrant workers, the AMTUC also demanded that proper security measures are taken up for the people of Manipur staying in other states.
