Imphal, December 22 2008: In stepped up activities after the attack at Raj Bhavan by KCP (MC, Lanheiba group), five UG suspects including three suspected cadres from KCP (MC), one from the Lanheiba group and two others from the Lamyanba Khuman faction have been scalped by security personnel at different places today.

The last encounter occurred at Yenkaobung on the Mayang Langjing to Khamram road today at 8.50 pm where one UG suspect was killed by a combined force of 39 AR and Imphal West police commandos.

According to police report, in the first encounter in the intervening night of December 21 and 22 at Lilong Lairaba Khong near Oinam Sawombung Dam under Lilong Police Station, Imphal West Police commandos killed one suspected underground activist and recovered one 9 mm pistol loaded with two live bullets from his possession.

Though the identity of the slain UG is yet to be confirmed it is suspected that he may be one Md Tajuddin (28) s/o Kamaluddin of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai.

The body is kept at RIMS morgue.

In the second encounter, a combined force of Imphal West District Police Commandos and 12 Maratha Light Infantry killed one suspected activist of the proscribed KCP (MC) Lanheiba group at Pathabi Loukon Heibimakhong of Taobungkhok Makha Leikai under Patsoi Police Station of Imphal West District at around 2.30 pm today.

The encounter ensued when suspected cadres of KCP (MC) Lanheiba group who came in a Maruti car and were stationing near the roadside of a paddy field located around 3.5 kms to the south-east of Patsoi Police Station opened fire at the security forces and fled.

One of the suspected UGs who could not board the car in time was shot dead in the retaliatory firing of the combined force.

The rest managed to escape.

One 9 mm pistol and three live rounds of ammunition have been recovered from the possession of the slain UG suspect, whose exact identity has not yet been confirmed.

But in the driving license recovered from his possession, it is written as Okram Ranjit (27) s/o Kokil of Arapti Maning Leikai.

The body has been picked up and deposited at the mortuary of RIMS.

A combined force of Bishnupur Police Commandos and personnel of 4/8 GR shot dead two suspected cadres of KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman group during an encounter at Irengband Awang Leikai under Nambol Police Station of Bishnupur district at around 3 pm today.

Following specific information about UGs extorting money from the public of Irengband, Leimaram and its surrounding area, the combined force rushed in and cordoned off some parts of Irengband.

At that relevant time, some UG suspects opened fire at the combined force who retaliated the firing and killed two of them.

The combined force have recovered one 9 mm pistol loaded with four live rounds of ammunition, one Chinese-made hand grenade and two demand letters of KCP (MC) Lamyanba group.

After the incident, the combined force launched a massive search operation.

But there is no report of any arrest or further encounter.

The bodies have been picked up and kept at the mortuary of RIMS.

Inclusive of that of the four UG suspects who were killed today, there are in all eight bodies lying in the mortuary of RIMS.

The identities of the two UG suspects who were shot dead by 29 Assam Rifles during an alleged encounter at Narum under Tengnoupal Police Station of Chandel district in the afternoon on December 21 as well as that of another two UG suspects shot dead by a combined force of Imphal West Police Commandos and 23 AR during an encounter at Ishikha Chingjin in Imphal East on the night of December 20 have not yet been established.

The freezer of the mortuary which has only 6 chambers is not being accommodate all the bodies.

Meanwhile, the bodies of Md Sanayai alias Azad (25) of Lilong Heibong Makhong and Md Islamuddin (36) of Lilong Chingkham who were reportedly shot dead by Imphal West Commandos during a encounter at Awang Sekmai Nongthomban on December 20 have been taken by their family members after post-mortem examination at the mortuary of RIMS hospital today.

The bodies have been taken following understanding between the Government and the representatives of the two JACs formed in connection with the incident after separate meetings with the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today.
